Ding Dong Merrily Old High
To bring our Christmas Lights Switch On Day festivities to a close on Sunday November 21st you are invited to come and enjoy one of the traditional highlights of our Festival.

After the Christmas Lights Switch On Ceremony we want you to gather at 6.30pm at the Old High Church for 'Ding Dong Merrily Old High', a fun half hour Candlelit Carol concert for children of all ages.

The Old High Church is the historic town church of Inverness- the oldest Church in Inverness which is situated on ‘St Michael’s mound, which is where St Columba of Iona is said to have preached.

There has been a church on the site since Celtic times.

It was used as prison after Battle of Culloden (1746); prisoners are said to have been executed in the historic graveyard.

The current building mostly 18th century with 19th century additions, but part of the tower dates back to the 14th century. The curfew is still rung from the clock tower at 8pm every night.

As the "Town Church", The Old High Church is the venue for the annual ‘Kirking of the Council’ when the Provost and the Councillors process from Town House for worship.
