Inverness Curling Festival Friday 31st October – Sunday 9th November We have seen success at the Winter Olympic and Paralympics, passion at the world cup, sportsmanship at the commonwealth Games and at the 40th Ryder Cup. The two month long event of Highland Homecoming has seen the return of the Royal National MOD to Inverness and so now the people of the Highlands can round of the year by coming to watch a showcase of the nations national sport. A new event for 2014 is the ‘Inverness Curling Festival’ which takes place at Inverness Ice Centre from Friday 31st October and runs though until Sunday 9th November 2014. This event will comprise of three different competitions, running through the week; The Inverness Skin Competition Highland Wheelchair Curling Triples Inverness Junior International Over the nine day period the Inverness Festival of Curling will attract over 200 athletes to three very different competitions. These will showcase the range of curling through ages and abilities with adults, juniors and wheelchair curlers all taking part. The Inverness Skins Curling Competition is firmly established and is in its 12th year. It now forms part of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour which takes in several rinks around Scotland, including Inverness, which is 4th out of the 8 competitions on the tour. The competition attracts curlers from all over Scotland and beyond. In its third year The Highland Wheelchair Triples Competition plays host to curlers from all over Scotland. Last year the home rink took the title and they will be looking to defend this in the coming event. With the event growing in popularity it’s hoped that this year entries from further afield will be looking to take part in the competition. The Highland Junior International has been running for 33years and last year for the first time, formed part of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club’s Asham under 21 slam. The event hosts rinks from all over Scotland and has included rinks from Europe, North America and Canada. We welcomed a boy’s rink from Poland last year and it is hoped to welcome more foreign entries to this year’s event.
